It is hard for students to understand the past. They laugh when I tell them the phone I used was connected to the wall. I want to give students the opportunity to connect with what they are learning. This is a two part project. First a fun fun book. As they start making the connections to history they become invested. It becomes a fun game of who can find the most references. The second part is hands-on. Student may choose any method of delivery. Video, 3-D model, 2-D model, lego sculpture, poster, song. The only limit is their imagination. Some have done plays and reenactments as well. Once they put all of it together I love seeing how much they learned and connected to history. One student told me “ I think I would have liked George Washington, like he would be an awesome uncle.” I love when they connect to the past!
