My students will use these Instant Cameras to recreate works of art by masters like Vermeer, Lichtenstein, and Kahlo. This S.T.E.A.M oriented project combines technology, history, the arts, and science in creative and empowering ways. The students will be assigned a historic period and be challenged to recreate these masterpieces, using either instant photography equipment. Unlike digital photography, which can be easily manipulated, these instant photos, once taken, can't be altered. The challenge lays in using these photographic tools to create a final product without resorting to digital manipulation. However, digital technology is a part of our world, ignoring it would be a disservice to our children. So, through digital rough drafts and analog final products, this project incorporates all these technologies seamlessly. These five instant instant cameras will add to an existing, and broken, class set and allow even more students individual camera time. In the spirit of diversifying my curriculum and highlighting individual students' talents and interest, I hope to expand the project this year, with your help, to include two cameras with manual settings that utilize modern bluetooth and digital phones in unison. This would empower the students enrolled in our fine arts focused program and equip them with the tools capable of meeting their more advanced needs and expectations. Together, we can remind students of the power that their imagination can have on the physical world and show them the role digital and analog technologies play in a world manipulated more so by their imagination than by photoshop.
