The little engineers of our school are in need of materials to share their work in a more holistic way. We can do this by using the Epson projector so all students in my class have equal access to the content and lessons throughout the day. With the document camera and projector, students will have a clear pathway to show their work in a way that all students can understand.
We believe the best way to learn is from each other by collaborating and showing our thinking with our class of engineers.
We are in need of literacy that connects with our interests and gets us thinking more deeply about empathy, the connections of literacy with robotics, and engaging ways to think about our emotions throughout the day. Daily, we enjoy doing read alouds and circling up to discuss the bridging connections we can make with our lives and our classroom. For example, The Breadwinner, this book is about a young girl from Afghanistan who has to act like a boy to gain access to the outside world to join her family. Some of my engineers identify as refugees and having a story about a girl that has struggled through common challenges will hopefully give them a sense of connection to the classroom and allow us to get to know them better has people in our classroom.
I have also included sensory materials, such as the kinetic sand, for students in my classroom who have faced severe trauma in their lives. Throughout the start of this school year, I have noticed that flexible seating options such as a wobble chair and soft sand to place in the calm down corner gives students a chance to reflect on their emotions and start to understand why they feel the way they do.
