As a recent 1:1 iPAD school, a 3D printer in our art studio will allow our students' imagination to run wild in creating abstract sculptures, mechanical artwork, and creating clay tools for our ceramics unit. As the teacher, this tool will allow me to lesson plan around a solid framework for introducing digital media, while still allowing for plenty of creative freedom. For example, in grades 4-6, I want our students to build and plan a community by creating architecture that best fits their dream environment. My students will study various styles of architecture, planning, and environmental issues to come up with the types of structures needed to develop their own communities. Each student will design their own building on paper before moving on to work digitally. I will use an online program called Tinkercad to develop their ideas in teams, keeping in mind practicality and their dream community! This is just one solid lesson of many endless possibilities! Please help us in achieving our dreams!
