In this integrated English and Theater project, students will read "The Hate U Give" and "The 57 Bus" in their English classes. After analyzing structure, storytelling, and theme in these books, students will adapt these important works into their own plays and scenes. By integrating their theater work with their English work - students will have a more meaningful experience truly immersed in these award-winning texts around social justice. These materials will make a difference in students' learning as it will allow them to explore the importance of studying and staging works that comment on injustices in our society. Such exploration will allow them to consider their own role as young artists and story tellers.
