I teach a special education class of 8 sixth, seventh and eighth graders with Autism. They are part of a 12 class Autistic program in a public school in New York. They are some of the most amazing individuals that I have ever had the pleasure to teach and work with. They have a wide range of different abilities and each student is a contributing member of the class. Some of my students are non-verbal and others are able to carry on a conversation with those around them. They are eager to learn children with personality and a sense of humor. Some days are more difficult than others, and I try to grasp their attention in any way that I can to keep them engaged. They are hands on learners and learn best through all different learning styles. They are sensory based learners and are more interested in leaning information that is taught using all of the senses.
