I teach special needs students who have behavioral disabilities. It is extremely difficult for them to maintain focus in the classroom due to their impulsivity, sensory needs, emotional needs, attention deficits, anger management issues, and much more. Some of the things that help them maintain focus on their academics while addressing their behavioral needs are adaptive seating and alternative texts. The wobble seats allow them to move in their seats in an appropriate manner yet remain safe and pay attention to the lesson without distracting their peers. The Scholastic Readers are much more interesting and current than the standard textbooks and come with an online component that may be accessed from their chromebooks. These two seemingly simple additions to our classroom will do wonders in helping these students learn more and struggle less with their disabilities.
