We are requesting ukuleles and assorted rhythm instruments which will help ignite my students' passion for sharing music in the community. I hope to create extra-curricular ensembles which give students the opportunity to share their talents with their friends, family, and community in which they live. By including both pitched and un-pitched instruments, I hope to satiate a wide variety of my students musical interests. Ukuleles are also becoming more prevalent in today's popular music, which can help students personalize their learning in a way that can help them achieve both short and long term musical goals. Adding these instruments to my classroom will also give me more opportunities to move from STEM to STEAM. They will have the opportunity to perform, compose and collaborate in an ensemble that celebrate differences, and creates a safe space for students to explore their self-expression.
