My classroom set of Chromebooks are older than my scholars. Due to severe budget cuts to my public school I have been paying out of pocket to buy updated Kindle Fire 7" tablets for my scholars to use during the school day. I am requesting 15 Kindles and 10 protective cases. I will use these to complete my classroom set of 27 Kindles( I have purchased 12 Kindle Fires out of pocket for my scholars to use during the school day). A full class set will allow each scholar to have their own Kindle Fire to use during our daily learning practice sessions. Every day in my classroom we D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) for 30 minutes every day. Currently, scholars share the Kindle Fires I have already purchased out of pocket. Half my scholars are reading books, while the other half is reading on the classroom Kindles. Scholars that have learning challenges or ELL scholars would benefit greatly from the accessibility features available on these tablets. We use ST Math and Lexia at our school site, but students would be able to practice their math and reading skills more consistently if we had a full classroom set of Kindle Fires. The scholars thirst for knowledge of the world, and with a class set of Kindle Fires, each student would be able to research and learn about their individual interests. Some scholars still do not have access to essential technology at home, and this would make it possible for them to use them at home as well.
