Although we will continue to use our lab tables and chairs, offering additional seating choices in my classroom will ultimately help my students be more focused and engaged in class. Flexible seating provides choice to students and helps them take ownership of their learning, thereby increasing motivation. It also provides movement opportunities for students who have difficulty sitting in traditional chairs all day. Whether it be during instruction, collaborative work, or independent time students will have the choice to sit in chairs, on stools, on ball chairs, on tall stools or stand at Stand2learn tables. This choice of seating benefits not only my students with ADHD/ADD or students with IEP’s, but it benefits every student in my classroom. My students are most looking forward to the Stand2learn tables which is why I requested two even though they’re a bit pricey. They are so excited about this project!
