I am asking for a variety of skill and strategy games (Prime Climb, Absolute Zero, Mancala) that allow my students to play with numbers; each of these games incorporates mathematical operations as elements of strategy that students use to both increase their comfort while connecting to mathematics through the joy of playing games. The additional supplies I've requested support a collaborative learning environment (Dry Erase Lapboards, markers, and erasers). Current research suggests that mathematical manipulatives increase student achievement and provide a tangible connection to the materials. Additionally, providing these materials in a collaborative environment that allows students to connect in small groups appears to accelerate the rate of achievement across all subjects. It's a win-win!
