"Books are like amusement parks and kids gotta be able to choose the rides." - Kwame Alexander Reading builds vocabulary, empathy, is a medium to freedom and has the ability to connect the reader to the outside world. Independent reading also encourages critical thinking and prepares students for the rigors of college and career. All of these books will be added to my classroom library to create a diverse selection of books so that I can continue to build a culture of reading in my classroom. I want my students to be exposed to literature that mirrors their life experiences and values. Literature that is written BY people who look like them. Literature that is written ABOUT people who look like them. I want them to be able to see themselves and their own life experiences in literature.
