You can be THE change that makes a huge impact on our little learners! This coming school year will be the second year that our district has employed a Social Emotional Behavior Specialist and the first year that all of our students will be face to face learning (due to Covid-19). There will be BIG feelings, A LOT of trauma, and endless behaviors from students who are either not used to being in a school setting, are having trouble readjusting to the school environment, or have been emotionally traumatized from the pandemic. We are ready. My school counselor and I have already begun to prepare for our students and we know that many of them will need a safe space to deescalate. Help us fill our new classroom with calming fidgets, flexible seating, and tools that we know work. For students who need help to focus in the classroom, we offer fidget tools. Others who need help sitting still will be allowed a flexible seat (in our room and/or their classroom). And for the majority, they will be able to talk with us in a relaxed environment when they need.
