I am lucky to call me second home a beautifully renovated classroom! My classroom was renovated six years ago, right before I began teaching, and so far it has only ever been home to me. I teach at a public school in DCPS that is known for being a small, tight-knit community. My school also boasts some of the greatest diversity in DC; we have students from all eight wards in our population due to the lottery system. As diversity has dwindled in recent years, the entire school community has taken intentional efforts to preserve this aspect of our school and continue to welcome families from outside our boundaries whenever we can. My classes each year range from between 27-21 first graders. This year I have students from 5 other countries who are here via international embassies, and this brings amazing culture into our room!
