My students are humans just like others, but they learn at a slower pace. I need materials that they can use that will help them in life. Dictionaries are becoming a way of the past, but they need to know how to use one. Students with special needs need to learn about survival in the real world. Having books by Gary Paulsen will allow my class to read books together and talk about them. They will expand their knowledge and they will learn how to talk about how they are feeling and what they should do. Not all my students can sit in a chair for 45 minutes without moving or interrupting. Having fidget rings and chair bands will allow them a way to release their energy without distracting the whole class.
