I teach students with varying abilities, daily living skills in the kitchen and strive for more independence in each of them. Students find recipes, plan the grocery shopping list, grocery shop, and cook the recipes they find each week. My students best learn these skills by cooking, creating, and learning in a hands-on environment. The hope is that by the end of the semester or school year, students have learned many prepping/cooking skills needed for them to live on their own or provide for themself in their family's home. Our classroom kitchens lack in many quality, basic kitchen supplies which are needed to perform our cooking skills proficiently. Our current cooking equipment is unsafe to use and without new supplies, students will not be able to move forward with gaining their independence.
