"Maus" is a graphic memoir of a holocaust survivor, depicted in cartoon mice. This lends my ESL and Special Ed students access and empathy to a world they don't normally inhabit---New York City Jews. But the humanity in this gripping story, in comic book format, will break through the language and cultural barriers and get my reluctant readers absorbed and inspired. "Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood" is Trevor Noah's memoir. I am planning on using my Audible book to help my kids read along. The stories in this book are so compelling and so relatable to my high school kids who feel marginalized. I know they will love it and will feel inspired!
