I have challenged my students to read at least 10 novels over the course of this school year and they are veraciously reading the books found in our classroom library. They have asked for the books on our list specifically: The Hate U Give; Dear Martin; To All the Boys I've Loved Before; and I would love to be able to provide these books for them. I teach a class of honor students who would benefit from the challenge of more advanced reading as they continue to reach goals beyond their grade levels. I would really like to honor their requests so that they feel heard and supported and therefore inspired to tackle more difficult texts as the year progresses. It can be difficult to motivate adolescents to read, but it can be even more challenging when students have special needs. I have one class of inclusion students who have also requested these novels and I would love to be able to provide these titles to them as it would be very motivational and would inspire them to read more.
