Students in Kindergarten are learning the alphabet to set the foundation for reading. The Spanish alphabet teaching tubs will provide practice and reinforcement in learning all the letter names and sounds. In order to establish a solid foundation, students must learn to recognize the letter names along with the corresponding letter sounds. Learning the alphabet and letter sounds in Kindergarten is a goal that we work towards on a daily basis. Students are introduced to a letter and the corresponding sound(s). Students are also introduced to new vocabulary in Spanish focusing on the letter of the day being taught. The Spanish alphabet teaching tubs will be a manipulative supporting resource to provide students with an opportunity to have a visual and make a connection with the letter name and letter sound. It will also provide students with an opportunity to learn new vocabulary words in Spanish because they will be able to hold objects that correspond to an initial letter sound. As my students continue to learn more letter names and sounds, they will be able to sort the objects from different tubs according to the initial letter sound. Having the alphabet teaching tubs will also help me reach those students that are visual and kinesthetic learners, as well as my 1st graders who are new to our Spanish program. My goal is for students to have different opportunities to explore and learn the alphabet, letter sounds, and vocabulary engaging with these materials in a small group. Small group instruction is essential to work closely with each student, evaluate students learning, and differentiate instruction focused on specific learning objectives for each group of students. By having these Spanish alphabet manipulatives, students will learn letter sounds in Spanish to enrich their minds as students in the beginning stages of reading.
