Our students have the opportunity to compete in The Battle of the Books program. Students have a list of 20 books they read throughout the year and then compete by asking questions about the books. Some of the books they will be reading are: Crenshaw, The Secret School, The Indian in the Cupboard, Roller Girl, and the other titles listed in my donations. Having these books in my class library allows them to have them more readily available to read and prepare for the competition. My students also have a love for reading, and I want to have more books available for them. 5,000 Awesome Facts (About Everything!), The Never Girls, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians 5 Book Set are some of the books allow different genres and styles of books to be at my student's fingertips in our classroom library. We then take the creativity and wonder that our students find in books, and we work with them to create their own story. The blank hardcover books are used as the final copy of their story as students go through the whole writing process. They get to become authors themselves.
