A colorful, spacious rug can provide a comfortable space for students to learn. Learning in an environment where children can see, hear, and understand the teacher is crucial to one's learning experience. A rug can provide a way for students to stay focused on the teacher during lessons and class discussions. Sitting together as a group feels like a mini community and helps with increasing students' social skills. A calm down space can be the intermediary that helps students acknowledge their frustrations. In the calm down corner is where I would utilize the bean bag chair. Providing a comfortable space for students to go when feeling overwhelmed helps them get their thoughts together and calm down. Soft, natural materials such as the bean bag chair give the children sensory stimulation.
