The pandemic has changed all of our lives but it's hard to see some of the changes the children have had to make. First graders usually start the year being able to sit in an assigned spot with minimal disruption to the teacher or peers. However many of them spent the majority of the year online learning virtually. They have not had to sit for long periods of time. They could get up and move around, lay on the floor or on the couch, and participate in their Google Meets. They weren't required to attend 6 hours of instruction each day where they had to remain in their own space. By having alternative seating as a choice the students are able to rock, bounce, twist, and stand in their own space which helps keep them focused and on task. My students need tools such as alternative seating choices and easels that roll and tilt to help them focus and be successful in class. I would love to have some wobble and ball chairs for students to use. These chairs allow the student to tilt, lean, bounce, and rock while they are working. They can be adjusted for height and that ensures any student can enjoy them. These types of chairs help with balance, improve focus, and cut down on classroom distractions. I would also like a rolling tilting easel. This will allow me to have small groups anywhere in the school. Having a mobile easel will help me move around the class, school, or outside and teach my students. These options will make the students more comfortable and willing to complete school work.
