We really need more Chromebooks in our classroom so we can have access to more materials for longer portions of time. Right now, students get 30 minutes or less on the Chromebooks each day - this is usually only for one rotation in math! If we had Chromebooks in the class, students would at least be getting to use a device for an hour and a half a day! Students could begin typing essays and completing Google Classroom Assignments in class and get my input immediately! Right now, students type essays and work on Google Classroom mostly at home and have to wait for my feedback until the next day - sometimes longer! If we had more Chromebooks in the class, students could begin their online work in class, and use me as a resource to help them improve upon their writing! It is important that students have the opportunity to develop 21st Century skills within a safe and secure digital environment. It is well known that being able to use technology is no longer enough, therefore, with more Chromebooks in the classroom I will make it a priority to educate students on how to use technology to analyze, learn, and explore. I believe that technology facilitates the purposeful integration of learning between subjects areas, such as providing students the chance to develop their writing skills as they research historical events and/or while conducting scientific research. An understanding of technology is now so important to one’s success, which is why I firmly believe that it needs to be used in the classroom as often as efficiently possible. Technology in the classroom is not a substitution for pencil and paper, rather it is an opportunity for students to appropriately explore a different style of learning.
