I've just started using the First Steps in Music curriculum with my Kindergarten and First grade students. Each lesson ends with a Song Tale. Each song tale has a corresponding book with beautiful illustrations that mirror the lyrics of the song. It's an opportunity for all the students to relax, listen and see the pictures of a fun children's song! The books will serve several purposes. The books will create a connect between the songs and literature. It will provide them a chance to see that books can be interesting when not just read to them but also sung. They will see a connection between the expression of the song and the illustrations in the book. Song Tales are lengthy and not meant for the children to sing but to have them sung to them. These books will help them connect to the many lyrics and put the tale together as they would with a book that is being read to them.
