In my classroom there is a big buzz over learning to read for many students. Some of my students are reading on or slightly below grade level but fair too many are significantly below level. As we discuss reading and its importance I find that many do not have books they can read at home and rarely visit their neighborhood library. However, there is such an eagerness to learn to read by so many. Many of my students come from single working parent homes where it seems that reading development is left up to the school and the child. However, beginning readers need support as they maneuver through books.
