Using full-spectrum LED lights, hydroponic growing kits, and a few chemicals to adjust water chemistry, these fifth graders will manage growth from seeds to harvest of three kinds of edible science! If we had your support, we could grow lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and basil. Not only will the students learn about plants in relation to ecosystems, they will also monitor and modify water chemistry. They'll observe, firsthand, how energy is transported within plant systems and transferred from the sun to their bodies. More than anything, students will see with their own eyes how plants get the materials they need for growth mainly from water and air.
