Over half of the students that I service come from low income homes. Couple this obstacle with the often frustrating diagnosis of dyslexia and you have a student that lacks the background knowledge, real world experience and proper strategies and support needed in order to succeed and effectively manage living with dyslexia. As a Dyslexia Interventionist it is my dream to provide support, encouragement and the proper supplies that my students need to succeed. Being able to service these students is a dream come true. Many have been under served. The resources that I am requesting include boogie boards - these are e-writers that will allow the students to practice their handwriting, more specifically cursive handwriting that is a part of our Neuhaus Curriculum. I am also requesting Google Home Devices. My own children use this at home to access instant research on the topics that we discuss. I am finding that in my classroom, my dyslexic students are constantly asking questions to build their background knowledge. I am always googling things on my phone for them. I feel that if we had these devices, the students could just ask the questions and do their own instant research. (I do not currently have student computers at the three campuses that I serve). I also requested a printer and cartridges. A printer is essential for our classroom. Dyslexic students perform better by learning visually. The printer would give me the access to print out pictures needed for lessons, and/or to help build background knowledge while strengthening and enhancing their visual learning styles. The magnetic letters are supplies that we use daily during our letter recognition and spelling portions of the lesson. Please help me create the classroom that these students need to cater to their unique learning styles!
