Everyone needs a safe place to go so that they can calm down from time to time. With these sensory materials, my students will be able to have a relaxing place to go where they can access tools to help them calm down when they are upset, anxious, frustrated, or sad. Many times these feelings are a barrier to my students' success in the classroom. It is difficult for my students to focus on their learning when they cannot regulate their emotions and behaviors. With these materials, I will design a sensory room named "The Zone" for my students with behavior disorders so that they can learn to regulate their emotions, and be ready to learn. My students can use the weighted blanket, for example, to help reduce their stress and it will also work as a calming mechanism. Fidgets are also perfect to my students that experience ADHD, autism, and anxiety. The rocking gaming chair will give my students with autism a chair to sit in that has the rocking stimulation that they desire to assist in self-soothing. The sensory bubble light will boast the relaxing atmosphere of "The Zone", and will make it so that the student can calm down just by stepping into the room. The items for this project will not only assist my students in learning to regulate their own emotions, but they will have a place to regroup and be ready to focus in class and learn. "The Zone" will definitely help my students to succeed in school, and in life!
