Each week, our class participates in a "shared reading" text which is read daily. The students become immersed in these texts which help them to gain confidence in their own reading skills. This is the very foundation of reading; building a love of books and language while offering practice in how reading works. Having access to multiple copies of these texts would allow my students to keep them in their book boxes so that they can continue to read these texts independently. In order to succeed during Workshop time and share their learning, whiteboards and dry- erase markers will be used to give my students opportunities to participate in interactive lessons. Further, math tools and manipulatives such as ten frames, dice, and counters will be used to engage my young learners during Math Workshop time. Our school is very fortunate to have access to iPads which allow students to utilize many educational applications and listen to books read aloud. Listening to books allows students to hear fluent reading and further encourage their love of reading. Class sets of headphones will allow each student to utilize this technology effectively.
