Despite hardships and challenging family life, my resilient and deligent group of first graders are determined to come to school to learn everyday. Even at the age of 6, they frequently talk about going to college, and know that doing their best in learning is the key to make "college for certain" (our school motto). We learn in a school located in the heart of Oak Park, an area synonymous with crime and poverty; however, you would never guess it when you step foot in our classroom, as my students and I have built together a caring and supportive family of learners full of love for each other, and love for learning... especially for reading! Read it, it's even written on our heart maps!

About my class
