It is extremely difficult for my students to learn using a general education curriculum so Sound Sensible will make all the difference for them. If I want my students to make real gains, I need a curriculum that has been proven to work. They need specific instruction that can address their individual needs. It can be used for many years so it can benefit a ton of students with disabilities. Sound Sensible is research-based and highly effective program for struggling and young readers with disabilities. It is an Orton-Gillingham based program that uses direct instruction to teach phonological awareness skills. It follows a predictable agenda each day that includes: Listening, Rhyming, Segmentation, Phoneme-Grapheme Relationships, and Dictation. Sound Sensible gives students the foundational skills they need to read that are often not taught explicitly in a general education classroom. After using this program, students will be able to name each letter sound and name, and they will know how to blend and segment words. Sound Sensible comes with all the materials I will need to teach, including flashcards and game pieces. I have used this program before and I know it works!
