A large number of our freshman students struggle with the transition to high school. The Beyond the Bell Club was created to extend the school day for students who may need additional assistance on their homework. It is run by myself and the other transition counselor and we often have different teachers stay to support students. Students are given a snack for arriving and we have a drawing after every marking period as an incentive for attending the program. We will use the headphones and the backpacks for those incentives. The iPad will be used for one to one student conferences about grades and missing work. The iPad will also serve as another electronic device on which to complete work if students do not have internet or their own at home. These materials will help many of our freshman get back on track as the year progresses. Our freshman use Beyond the Bell as a safe space that grants them access to resources that we have in the school that they may not have at home. Our students and families love having the opportunity to spend time in the building after hours to get the help that they need. Your generosity will make a huge difference for a large number of students who utilize the club.
