My students need relevant and helpful non-fiction reading materials. Many of my 8th Graders still struggle with reading comprehension and often investment in reading materials. I want to prepare them to read non-fiction texts independently and closely. With these subscriptions to "Choices" magazine, my students will practice reading comprehension skills while learning content about healthy choices for teens. In today's work force, teens need to be learning skills that will help their employment chances. By reading about skills like communication, adaptability, and work ethic; my students can work on two goals at once: reading and life skills! They will also be able to keep these magazine publications. For some, these magazines may be the only reading materials available in their homes. I believe that these reading materials can be a hook for many of my less engaged students. They are passionate when they talk about these topics, so I want to provide them with reading materials that support their interests.
