My students' love for learning about animals makes this project easy for them to get excited about. After discussing food chains and webs, I will give the students an owl pellet. I, however, will not tell them what it is. They will begin breaking it apart and I know I will hear shouts of, "I think that is a bone," and "What is that?" They will dissect the pellet and categorize what they observe in it. Because of the owl pellet that they are able to manipulate, these bright young scientists will have detailed discussions about ecosystems and food webs.
