More than 3/4 of my students are "At Risk," meaning they do not have many opportunities at home to explore the world outside of our town. I want to give them the world. I want to encourage them to always ask questions, and to always seek knowledge, and to become successful lifelong learners. I would love to get some VR technology in our classroom. At least once a week I am setting up lab stations with various hands on activities to help students grasp the current concepts. Having a VR center where they can explore the moon like their rocket ship just landed, or explore rocks all over the world without having to get on a plane can really help those students who might be more visual when learning. I also want to create global awareness, and enhance STEM education in the classroom by using Oculus. The other item I am requesting is Alexa for the classroom. Like mentioned above I am a big supporter of life long learning, and the first step of becoming a life long learner is to never stop asking questions. Having several options around the room for information gathering can help in the research process of science. If I can teach concepts in a kinetic and visual way, I am helping those who might be struggling with grasping things by only teaching in a lecture/paperwork format. I am a very hands on teacher, that loves to incorporate hands on learning on a weekly basis. I want them to create a passion for not only learning but Science as well.
