One aspect of teaching science in a middle school setting is the fight to help students connect these new concepts to real-life phenomena and situations. Scholastic publishes some fantastic resources that will help to engage my students when trying to learn new concepts. These magazines are written by age group and include articles that are interesting to the students and really help them to relate content to real life. As I am working to fully incorporate the Next Generation Science Standards,we are placing a huge emphasis on real-life phenomena. Using these scholastic articles will help the students to make the required connections to help them become successful life-long learners. We also often incorporate colored paper and card stock in our interactive notebooks, being able to color-coordinate helps the kids to study and remember concepts more effectively.
