Our classroom is lacking an easel. Having an easel in our classroom will give my students the opportunity to work together during lessons. Our reading and writing program requires us to create teaching charts of different techniques and strategies the students will need to use during the lesson. We write the strategies onto the charts during the lessons while the students are gathered near the easel. Having the charts hung on the easel will allow the students to be an active part of the lesson as the easel will be in close proximity to each student for viewing. The easel is also a dry erase board that will be used during lessons. During math lessons, I as the teacher will use the board to teach and model the concept being taught to the students. When students work independently, the students who need additional assistance can be retaught the concept with the use of the dry erase board. I will be able to model what they need help with and the students can also use the board to practice working out problems on their own and with with each other. This easel also has wheels which makes it easy to be transported around the room to meet with various groups of students for conferences, small group lessons, guided reading, and math groups. This easel will be used daily in our classroom by all students as students are grouped by ability and then taught in groups of 4-5 students at a time. This easel also has a shelf underneath where materials needed for the lesson can be easily assessed.
