Giving children opportunities to put rhythm reading into context is extremely important in developing music literacy. With new egg shakers, my K4-1st grade students would have the opportunity to perform rhythm patterns on an actual instrument. Rhythm sticks are awesome for this age group as they are a bit too young and small for our big drums. The rhythm sticks that we have now are splintering and I am too scared to let the kids use them, as I do not want them to get splinters. New rhythm sticks would give them new and interesting ways to learn about reading rhythms and keeping a steady beat!
