Every student needs a voice! In my preschool classroom, communication is a huge skill that children need to learn to be able to use socially with peers as well as adults. Could you imagine not being able to express your wants, needs, and thoughts through your own voice? Seeing a child get frustrated trying to communicate with another child is heartbreaking and frustrating to watch. Having iPads can help my students communicate effectively and reduce the amount of behaviors out of frustration that communicating may cause. There are so many apps out there, such as Sounding Board and the Lamp program, that are helpful tools for children who are non-verbal or have a speech delay to utilize. I would like to use iPads in my classroom to not only help children communicate with each other and grow socially, but to explore technology in the preschool world and prove that children can use technology creatively and beneficially. I believe ALL children in my classroom would benefit from having iPads in our classroom. It enhances literacy skills, communication, math skills, and creativity. I will use iPads in my reading center using QR codes so children can independently have a story read to them, enhancing their literacy skills. I will also use the GooseChase app that is an interactive scavenger hunt that promotes language development and team building skills. I will also use the iPad to create fairy tales using the DoInk green screen app. These are a few ideas among the endless opportunities that having iPads in my inclusive preschool classroom will create! Let's give these children a voice!
