In order to be successful in high school and in the real world, my students need to develop appropriate life, social, and vocational skills so they can be as independent as possible. The various curricula will provide necessary content and hands-on activities they need to master these skills. Connections in the Workplace and It’s All Part of the Job will be pivotal in helping my students understand job skills and expectations. They will not only learn to fill out job applications and complete resumes, but they will learn to interact with employers and co-workers in a professional manner. By using hands-on curriculum such as Social Story Readers, Focus on Feelings, and Acting Out Social Skills: Beyond the Basics, my students can practice socializing with peers and each other in real-world situations and can prepare for social situations they might encounter in school or the community. My students also need to understand basic life skills such as managing finances, cooking, and taking care of a home. By using the various life skills curricula such as the Life Skills Activities series and Attainment's Life Skill Lessons, my students will learn necessary life skills they will need to complete basic daily tasks and to be as independent as possible upon graduation.
