The Japanese Exchange Program (JEP) between our school and Okazaki Primary School, in Okazaki, Japan has been in place for more than 25 years. This program provides the opportunity to experience new culture, learn new language, meet new lifelong friends, get a “second family”, and build personal development. The goal of the JEP is to increase interest in cultural studies by experiencing an immersion in each other’s culture. While our students are in Japan, host families have planned field trips and sightseeing trips for our students to experience as much Japanese culture as possible. Gift giving is very important in the Japanese culture so we always buy each hosting family commemorative t-shirt as well as make gift bags assembled with Ball State, Muncie, Indiana and USA memorabilia.
