My students should have many opportunities to see authentic examples of science in action. To this end, they have worked closely with ecologists from the New York City Parks Organization to survey wildlife in some of NYC’s green spaces. Some have collected data with the Million Oyster project. Having access to Scholastic Science World magazines will greatly expand the students’ exposure to science in the real world. I hope that as my students read about science concepts and current scientific discoveries, they will begin to see that science is truly all around us. The magazines will also encourage my students to act like scientists, engaging in experiments and engineering challenges. I want my students to picture themselves as the scientists of the future.
