If you have read the book "The One and Only Ivan" you can understand the excitement and enthusiasm my students displayed when they discovered the same animal character from this book was at the Bronx Zoo. My students are so motivated to learn more about gorillas and other animals and their relationships with one another. This interest was sparked from this book! Reading and Writing can be a struggle for my students. After reading this book my student displayed such eagerness to want to read so they can learn more or create their own stories about animals. I want to be able to offer my students opportunities where they can apply and further their learning. In a society where learning empathy and making personal connections is a challenge, where poverty holds children back from achieving their full potential, I believe it is important to give them opportunities where they can make connections to what they are learning in school to the real world. I hope you can help me make this possible for my students. Thank you so much!
