My students are amazing readers and are super curious about the world around them. I have been teaching them the importance of reading non-fiction texts, and I need books that are high interest and engaging. One of the main standards we teach in 3rd grade is graphic sources and finding information other places than just the text. Non-fiction texts are the best resource to teach kids about graphic sources. I've chosen some National Geographic materials because the kids are naturally drawn to them. New books are so enticing! Another huge standard we teach in 3rd grade is informational writing. I love to have the kids read informational books and then write about what they've read about in an informational structure. When they have books that are interesting to them, it's much easier for them to be motivated to do a great job.
