The standard note-taking and essay model used in many classrooms does not adequately serve the learning needs of most students. Interactive Notebooks allow students of all ability levels to extend their learning beyond the walls of the classroom by allowing them to engage the content in a way that plays to their individual strengths. From the Interactive Notebook they can work towards group and individual projects that provide additional (and more interesting) ways for students to prove their understanding, without always writing an essay.
Interactive Notebooks build knowledge and skill in a way that maximizes the strengths of each student. With Interactive Notebooks and project-based learning, students of all abilities can choose from a variety of ways to demonstrate their learning. Endless notes and essays become boring and formulaic for students (and teachers!); requiring students to go beyond the essay and standard note-taking increases student learning by engaging with content in diverse ways. Your support will provide a richer classroom experience for students and increase their likelihood of success in high school and beyond!
