These new books will delight and inspire all the young readers in my classroom to be lifelong readers! My students love both fiction and non-fiction books. They love curling up on my bean bag chairs to read their books in my classroom library. Since the books on my wish list are all AR (Accelerated Reader) books, the children will be able to take AR tests on the eight computers I have in my classoom. The students answer comprehension and vocabulary questions on the computer. The students acquire points and earn reading medallions at the end of every semester if they reach their point goal with an 80% comprehension rate.
Not only will these books be used for our school's Accelerated Reader Program, they will also be utilized at independent reading centers in my classroom. Students respond to text readings in their reading response journals. They also share key points and details with their partners using their white boards and dry erase markers. Since the students use these boards daily for reading, writing, and math, their pens don't last very long, so additional supplies are always needed and very much appreciated.
