My 22 first-grade students are enthusiastic and motivated learners. Our school is one of the largest elementary schools in the state, the largest in the city, and has a high rate of poverty. Many of my students are immigrants and are English Language Learners. And though many of them face adversity on a daily basis, they come to school with a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn.
