Currently, my school only has enough computers for two out of the ten classrooms. Ideally, each classroom would have its own set of computers. In today's world, more than 50% of jobs require some degree of technological skills. This percentage is expected to increase to at least 77% within the next decade. It is our duty as educators to prepare our students with the necessary technical skills to be competitive in the future job market. Students who develop these skills in elementary are at a huge advantage compared to students who wait until middle school and high school. This is just one of the many benefits that having one-to-one computers in the classroom will have. Some additional benefits of having computers in the classroom include retaining information, increased engagement, individualized instruction, immediate access to resources, and it encourages collaboration. Access to computers while in an elementary provides students with alternative means to demonstrate their understanding and to express themselves. Students in my classroom will use computers for groups projects, and also, learn how to conduct research and to analyze the validity of sources. Typing skills will be developed utilizing online writing assignments. Family members will have the opportunity to be more involved in the student's education by allowing access to their student's assignments and projects. More exposure to computers will also prepare students for state testing that is conducted on computer programs. Your contribution to donate computers will benefit the entire school!
