If you walked into my classroom, you might see students who struggle with everyday learning be 100% engaged as they work collaboratively to create a video to relate content in an accessible way. You would also see students who typically have a difficult time expressing themselves to become the star of the show as they teach a math lesson through a video to their parents. There's also a high chance you could come upon students in an engaging conversation about a recent podcast they listened to.
All of this and more is made possible in my classroom through technology. Unfortunately, however, many of these opportunities are difficult to develop when students are passing around my phone to capture their ideas! This is where you come into play. If we could even get one Ipad for our classroom, the possibilities would be endless for us!
Multimedia is a key way children of today gather and share information. They aren't just consumers of videos- they create videos to share their opinions and ideas with those outside of our classroom. By having an Ipad in my classroom, the walls of our classroom will drop and we will be able to learn so much more about the world around us than ever thought possible.
I teach at a Title 1 school, and so many of my students don't have a lot of opportunities. Insert technology. Items such as iPads allow them to go beyond our classroom in ways that they are unable to go outside of school through such things as Podcasts, virtual field trips, and video-editing.
Video taps into current interests and habits of my students and allow them to connect with authentic audiences. The Ipads would be used in my classroom to document knowledge, reflect on learning experiences, and teach and inspire the world!
