In the state of Texas all eight grade students can use a calculator on their state assessment. My 8th graders this year were so excited to come to 8th grade and get to use calculators to enhance their learning and love of math. Calculators are a resource most people use everyday. This tool continues to be updated with newer versions and better technology. Using a calculator helps lower performing students succeed and show growth on their state assessment. Our current calculators are out of date and need to be replaced with the newer version of the TI-84 calculator. The newer version will help my lower performing students become more successful in their math.
